The mere essence of death metal is what fans are drawn into the minute they discover a new band or hear their favorite band’s new album. Rivers of Nihil, is captivating that essence with the creation of their new upcoming release titled, Where Owls Know My Name via Metal Blade Records on March 16th.
The record is composed of powerful harmonics kicking off intensely on their new single titled “The Silent Life”, an attack to your ears with magnificent musicianship. Drummer, Jared Klein, delivers explosive sounds, with double pedals and fancy hand work skillfully devastating listeners. The ambiance incorporated on this album holds your hand as you walk through an apocalyptic scene, where nothing else is alive but yourself and your thoughts. There is a special element, a surprise, a saxophone that lures you in to the void, as catastrophe unfolds as the sounds drag you in the chaos, in a soothing style, almost outer body experience. The riveting guitar solo by Brody Uttley, simply sways your soul as vocalist Jake Dieffenbach ravages your existence. In that minute of chaos, you hear the drums, and saxophone duel out a debilitating moment which changes everything in the metal world.
The art, the rage, the talent and the sounds Rivers of Nihil have captured with this record are ahead of our time! The introduction to the titled track “Old Nothing” is infuriating, and harrows you through space in a black void, where the relentless beating of drums, and guitars shredding are essential. Moving forward, this band blends the raw brutal vocals with clean vocals exceptionally, yes clean singing, their sound is monstrous and the saxophone makes it’s tantalizing appearance in the track titled “Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition)”. The album will surprise those fans who know Rivers of Nihil, it takes a moment of artistic input to conjure such a melodic and transcending album, as is Where Owls Know My Name. There is one word that describes this record and it is epic. We had the chance to speak with Brody Uttley guitarist, and composer of such powerful sound and this is what he had to say about their sound, the saxophone, art work and life on the road.
