
Norwegian black metal originators and long standing line up, Mayhem have conjured a sensational new record titled Liturgy of Death. Without compromise and changes to their dark black metal, Mayhem has unleashed yet another tantalizing record. The album hits the stored on February 6th, 2026 via Century Media Records.

The album kicks off with a solemn sound, dark as the abyss. The titled track: “Ephemerial Eternity” introduces the twists and turns. These changes foreshadow the horror-like sound coming up ahead. You entered a castle haunted where horrors will take place and the harrowing vocals make you uneasy. The maelstrom drum work and intricate guitar work kick in right away during this track. The following track “Despair” is a requiem to the daily emotions of a hopeless being. The guitar work and bass go hand in hand making, with a catchy riff and harmony “Despair”. The band has not steered away from their malicious dark sound. The track “Weep For Nothing” has a vicious guitar attack. Attila Csihar delivers the gruesome vocals he is known for. The ensemble takes you on a voyage of pure evil.

Mayhem is demonstrating the rumors are true, they are the cultivators of black metal, of extreme music for extreme fans. The long standing line up consists of founding father Necrobutcher, everlasting drummer Hellhammer and vocalist Attila Csihar. Morten Bergeton Iverson (2011) and Ghul (2012) are recent additions. Together, they create a rejuvenated sound with the same extreme vitality. By no means does rejuvenated mean, modern, simply a darker ominous requiem.

Selecting a favorite track is impossible with an album like this. Harmonies and melodies enrich Liturgy of Death. It is easier to enjoy the entire album. The titled song “Funeral of Existence” is packed with harmonies, skillful guitar work and ravenous vocals. The explosive sounds behind the drum kit blend with deep bass tones, completing this masterpiece.
