The goth / doom purveyors, Paradise Lost came out swinging with their latest album titled Ascension, out now via Nuclear Blast Records. The band has compiled a set of tracks filled with sorrow and fantastic music.

The album Ascension by Paradise Lost drags you in to a vortex of melancholic tunes and abysmal sounds. The first track titled, “Serpent On the Cross” kicks in with an ominous riff, with hints of heavy metal and gory vocals. An alluring guitar solo surfaces as the track reaches its end. The follow up track titles “Tyrants Serenade” has a heavy pounding drum intro, as the guitars kick in that melody as clean vocals resonate deep and powerful. An apprehensive feeling overtakes your body as this song marches on, it encapsulates all the signature sounds Paradise Lost is known for. After five years, Paradise Lost came with this melancholic record and each track pushes you down more and more into oblivion. The sounds are epic, the musicianship stronger than ever. The track “Salvation” will send you into a catatonic state, this is a powerful song. The album focuses on misery of man, as they thrive to be saved from earth, only to meet their demise, death is inevitable. The beauty of each track on this album makes life more paletable.

This album is a masterful composition, each track is packed with something that remains in your memory, captivating your soul with each note. The track “Diluvium”, harrows the listener with the sounds of doom, and intensity through and through. Metal riffs and drum beats kick in giving life to a gloomy song, energizing it for a brief moment, succumbing into a relentless double pedal and pulverizing tones. This has to be one of the most perplexing albums of all year, with elements of doom, energetic solos, upbeat sounds and condemning lyrics; Ascension, will rip your soul. Make sure to get this album and check out these songs on your own.
